Important dates and info for Redbird Students:

7/5/09: Sunday Group Lesson and Repertoire Workshop. Group Lesson is at 2PM. Cost is $10 for an hour or so with a minimum of 3 students. Come play/practice tunes with your fellow Redbird students! Reservation recommended. The group lessons are open to all Redbird students and to family members that are familiar with our repertoire. Repertoire Workshop starts at 3. Cost is $10. Increase your repertoire of traditional Irish tunes! All instruments appropriate to Irish melody are welcome. All levels are welcome provided that you are comfortable with your instrument and open to learning by ear. Tunes are taught by ear in a group setting. We will teach 1-2 tunes per one-hour session and review as time allows. Participants are encouraged to participate in our monthly slow session to review tunes further. Cost is $10 per participant. A minimum of 3 participants is required. Please reserve your spot in advance. Bring your tape/digital recorder!

I hope you will take advantage of this opportunity to work on group playing! Please RSVP. Following our group lesson, there will be a Slow Irish Tunes Session from 8 – 9:30 and a “regular” Irish Session from 9:30 until… All instruments appropriate to Irish melody are welcome. Hope you will stay to meet and play tunes with your local peers. Bring a snack to share and stay for some tunes!

Andi Hearn has been teaching and performing Irish music in Columbia for more than 7 years and formed the Redbird School of Irish Music in 2006. She has a range of student ages and levels. "I like to keep each lesson challenging, fun and tailored to each student's interests." Tunes, songs and techniques are learned in the traditional style: by ear, with a focus on technical form as needed.
Davey Mathias started playing guitar at the age of nine and has since studied a wide variety of styles. He offers lessons in DADGAD guitar accompaniment for Irish music. Davey is also a skilled tenor banjo player and teaches tunes and techniques from the Irish repertoire for tenor banjo and mandolin..
