Redbird Lesson Information
At Redbird School of Irish Music, we cherish the living tradition of Irish music and the influence it has had on music in our region. We teach the dance music and song of Ireland in the traditional way - by ear (no reading music!) - at each student's ability level to keep them learning and challenged. Lessons are focused on traditional repertoire, melody and ornamentation.
We teach children and adults of all ages in Irish Fiddle, Guitar, Tenor Banjo, Mandolin, Irish Song, Tin Whistle, and Bodhran. Students may choose from weekly or every-other week private lessons and are also invited to participate in our Repertoire workshops, Group Lessons and Sessions:
- Group Lessons: The group lessons are open to all Redbird students and to family members/friends that are familiar with our repertoire. We work from our Redbird repertoire on group playing, set building and session playing. Cost is $10. Please reserve your spot in advance or pay on-line (see below). See our calendar for dates.
- Repertoire Workshops: Increase your repertoire of traditional Irish tunes! All instruments appropriate to Irish melody are welcome (NOT limited to Redbird students!). All levels are welcome provided that you are comfortable with your instrument and open to learning by ear. Tunes are taught by ear in a group setting. Cost is $10. Please reserve your spot in advance or pay on-line (see below). See our calendar for dates.
- Redbird Session: Please bring your favorite Irish tunes to share! All instruments appropriate to Irish melody are welcome (NOT limited to Redbird students!) Beginners are very welcome - its ok if you don't play all or any of the tunes - its a nice opportunity to hear and record common session tunes, and maybe pick a new one to learn! $35 for 1 hour lesson
$25 for half-hour lesson
Group Lesson / Repertoire Workshop $10
Payment Policy
Please pay in advance for one month for private lessons, ideally by or on the first lesson of each month. We keep records of each payment and lesson, so we can keep track of this easily. Cash or check is preferred. Checks should be made to Redbird School of Irish Music. If paying by month is not possible for your budget, we require advance payment for at least your next lesson.
Cancellation Policy
If you need to cancel/change your lesson, please let us know a week in advance. We will work with you to try to reschedule if possible. A minimum of 48 hours is recommended. If sufficient notice is not provided, or you do not show up for your lesson and have not notified us at all, we will charge you for the lesson. We will do our best to work with you in cases of illness, emergency situations, etc.
